{"id":25871,"date":"2025-09-08T11:24:05","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T05:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25871"},"modified":"2025-09-08T14:04:41","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T08:34:41","slug":"international-earth-sciences-olympiad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/international-earth-sciences-olympiad\/","title":{"rendered":"International Earth Sciences Olympiad"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>International Earth Sciences Olympiad Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science &amp; Technology felicitated the student winners comprising the Indian team at the 18th &#8220;International Earth Science Olympiad&#8221; (IESO-2025) held at Jining, China.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About International Earth Sciences Olympiad<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>established in 2003<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <\/span><b>the International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to generate <\/span><b>awareness of earth sciences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through teamwork, collaboration, exchanging ideas, and competition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an annual competition for <\/span><b>secondary school students<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Class IX\u2013XII) worldwide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has <\/span><b>been participating since 2007<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and hosted the <\/span><b>10th edition at Mysore in 2013.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Government of India\u2019s Initiatives<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To encourage the participation of Indian students (of grades 9 to 12) the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) supports the <\/span><b>Indian National Earth Science Olympiad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (INESO) held in various schools across India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The INESO is a <\/span><b>national-level prelude to the IESO,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is<\/span><b> facilitated annually by the Geological Society of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in collaboration with MoES and select educational bodies in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Topics for assessment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, and Environmental sciences.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Top-performing participants from INESO get to represent India at the IESO, which also receives support from the MoES.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MoES supports the <\/span><b>INESO and IESO as part of the REACHOUT scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the PRITHVI (PRITHvi Vigyan) scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2164472\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PIB<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The International Earth Sciences Olympiad was established in 2003 at the International Geoscience Education Organization Council Meeting in Calgary, Canada.
