{"id":25874,"date":"2025-10-27T01:45:34","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T20:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25874"},"modified":"2025-10-28T15:37:23","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T10:07:23","slug":"multidimensional-vulnerability-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/multidimensional-vulnerability-index\/","title":{"rendered":"Multidimensional Vulnerability Index"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Multidimensional Vulnerability Index:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a new <strong>international quantitative benchmark<\/strong> to measure <strong>structural vulnerability<\/strong> and the lack of structural resilience across multiple dimensions of sustainable development at the national level.<\/li>\n<li>It is set to act as a <strong>complement to Gross Domestic Product<\/strong> (GDP) and other development metrics.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> It aims to <strong>capture exogenous vulnerabilities<\/strong> and lack of resilience to exogenous shocks of all developing countries, so as to ensure credibility and comparability.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Background<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Since the 1990s, <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sids\/\" target=\"_blank\">small island developing states (SIDS)<\/a> that are not poor enough in terms of GDP per capita to <strong>access low-interest development<\/strong> financing but nonetheless <strong>face vulnerability to external shocks<\/strong> like climate change have been calling for such a measure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It incorporates <strong>indicators l<\/strong>inked to a state\u2019s <strong>structural vulnerabilities<\/strong> and lack of <strong>economic, environmental and social resilience.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These factors <strong>include import dependency<\/strong>, exposure to extreme weather events and pandemics, impacts of regional violence, refugees, demographic pressure, water and arable land resources and mortality of children under five.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance:<\/strong> It is a vital tool to help <strong>Small Island nations<\/strong> gain access to the <strong>concessional financing that<\/strong> they need to survive the climate catastrophe, to improve their <strong>long-term national planning<\/strong>, service their debts, and sign up to insurance and compensation schemes that may be their last hope when the waters rise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What Is Gross Domestic Product (GDP)?<\/h3>\n<p>Gross domestic product (GDP) is the total monetary or market value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country\u2019s borders in a specific time period.
