{"id":25918,"date":"2024-08-19T03:28:51","date_gmt":"2024-08-18T21:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25918"},"modified":"2025-04-07T22:10:28","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T16:40:28","slug":"directorate-general-of-quality-assurance-dgqa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/directorate-general-of-quality-assurance-dgqa\/","title":{"rendered":"Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>DGQA is an <strong>Inter-Service Organisation<\/strong> functioning <strong>under the Department of Defence Production<\/strong> in the <strong>Ministry of Defence<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This organisation is <strong>more than a hundred years old<\/strong> and is <strong>responsible for<\/strong> second-party <strong>Quality Assurance (QA) of all defence stores and equipment<\/strong>, <strong>both imported<\/strong> as well as <strong>indigenous<\/strong>, <strong>for the Army, Navy<\/strong> (excluding Naval Armaments), <strong>and<\/strong> common user items for the <strong>Air Force<\/strong> procured from Private Sector, Public Sector Undertakings, and Ordnance Factories.<\/li>\n<li>DGQA approval implies that the products have been subjected to extensive testing, including simulations of extreme conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Apart from QA activities, the organisation is <strong>responsible for import substitution<\/strong> and <strong>associates with DRDO in<\/strong> the development <strong>projects<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It also <strong>ensures Documentation, Codification and Standardisation Action<\/strong> for minimizing the variety of components\/equipment.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>other services<\/strong> rendered are <strong>promotion of small-scale industries<\/strong>, <strong>post-procurement services,Defect Investigations<\/strong> and <strong>Technical Consultancy<\/strong> to the users, the Ministry and the production agencies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organisational Structure:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>DGQA Organisation is structured into <strong>eleven Technical Directorates<\/strong>, <strong>each<\/strong> responsible <strong>for a distinct range of equipment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Technical Directorates<\/strong> are <strong>structured in two tiers<\/strong> for functional purposes, comprising of <strong>Control lerates and Field Quality Assurance Establishments<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, <strong>there are Proof Establishments in Armament Discipline<\/strong> for carrying out proof of weapons and ammunition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is Nipun Munition?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nipun is a <strong>soft-target munition<\/strong> designed and <strong>developed by the Armament Research &amp; Development Establishment<\/strong> (ARDE), in <strong>association with the High Energy Materials Research<\/strong> Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune.<\/li>\n<li>NIPUN is highly user-friendly and deadly against the enemy.<\/li>\n<li>It is completely safe during handling, transportation, and laying.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/quest-upsc-notes\/defence-research-and-development-organisation-drdo\/\" target=\"_blank\">DRDO<\/a> is the R&amp;D wing of Ministry of Defence, Govt of India, with a vision to empower India with cutting-edge defence technologies and a mission to achieve self-reliance in critical defence technologies and systems, while equipping our armed forces with state-of-the-art weapon systems and equipment in accordance with requirements laid down by the three Services.
