{"id":25949,"date":"2024-08-20T01:12:29","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T19:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25949"},"modified":"2025-04-07T22:23:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T16:53:56","slug":"court-of-arbitration-for-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/court-of-arbitration-for-sport\/","title":{"rendered":"Court of Arbitration for Sport"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Court of Arbitration for Sport:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was created in 1984 and is placed under the administrative and financial authority of the <strong>International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is an institution independent of any sports organization which provides for servic\u00ades in order to facilitate the settlement of sports-related disputes through arbitration or mediation by means of procedural rules adapted to the\u00ad specific needs of the sports world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It has the task of resolving legal disputes in the field of sport through arbitration.<\/li>\n<li>It does this by pronouncing<strong> arbitral awards<\/strong> that have the same enforceability as judgements of ordinary \u00adcourts.<\/li>\n<li>It can also help parties solve their disputes on an amicable <strong>basis through mediation,<\/strong> when this procedure is allowed.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It sets up <strong>non-permanent tribunals<\/strong>, which it does for the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games or other similar major events.<\/li>\n<li>To take into account the circumstances of such events, special procedural rules are established on each occasion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What kinds of disputes can be submitted to the CAS?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any disputes directly or indirectly linked to sport may be submitted to the CAS.<\/li>\n<li>These may be <strong>disputes of a commercial nature<\/strong> (e.g. a sponsorship contract), or of a disciplinary nature following a decision by a sports organisation (e.g. a doping case).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Who can refer a case to the CAS?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any <strong>individual or legal entity<\/strong> with capacity to act may have recourse to the services of the CAS.<\/li>\n<li>These include athletes, clubs, sports federations, organisers of sports events, sponsors or television companies.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Olympic Order?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the highest award bestowed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for outstanding contributions to the Olympic Movement.
