{"id":26071,"date":"2024-08-26T05:51:11","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T00:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=26071"},"modified":"2025-04-07T23:26:39","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T17:56:39","slug":"ins-mumbai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ins-mumbai\/","title":{"rendered":"What is INS Mumbai?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About INS Mumbai:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>INS Mumbai is the third of the <strong>Delhi-class guided missile destroyers<\/strong>, <strong>indigenously built<\/strong> and commissioned into the Indian Navy on 22 January 2001.<\/li>\n<li>It was constructed at <strong>Mazagon Dock Limited<\/strong> in Mumbai.<\/li>\n<li>She was <strong>adjudged the \u2018Best Ship\u2019 thrice and the \u2018Most Spirited Ship\u2019 twice,<\/strong> which is a rare feat for any warship.<\/li>\n<li>The ship has been at the <strong>forefront of major Naval Operations like Op Parakram<\/strong> (2002), <strong>Op Sukoon <\/strong>(<strong>2006<\/strong>: <strong>evacuation of Indian<\/strong>, Nepalese, and Sri Lankan <strong>citizens from Lebanon<\/strong>), and <strong>Op Rahat<\/strong> (<strong>2015<\/strong>: <strong>evacuation of Indian<\/strong> and foreign <strong>nationals from Yemen<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>The ship completed its mid-life upgrade and <strong>joined the Eastern Naval Command<\/strong> in Visakhapatnam on 8 December 2023.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>With a displacement of over 6500 tons, the ship is manned by 350 sailors and 40 officers.<\/li>\n<li>The ship, spanning 163 metres in length and 17 metres at the beam, <strong>propelled by four gas turbines,<\/strong> is capable of achieving speeds in excess of 32 knots.<\/li>\n<li>Fitted with an enviable, state-of-the-art weapons suite, which includes <strong>Surface to Surface Missiles, Surface to Air Missiles, Anti-Submarine rockets,<\/strong> and <strong>torpedoes<\/strong>, the ship can unleash lethal firepower upon the enemy.<\/li>\n<li>The ship also <strong>operates all kinds helicopters<\/strong> in the naval inventory, which are its extended eyes and ears.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are Guided missile destroyers?<\/h3>\n<p>Guided missile destroyers are warships that provide multi-mission offensive and defensive capabilities. They are armed with guided missiles for anti-aircraft warfare, anti-surface operations and anti-submarine warfare.
