{"id":26349,"date":"2026-05-25T12:25:39","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T06:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=26349"},"modified":"2026-05-25T13:30:04","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T08:00:04","slug":"public-accounts-committee-pac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/public-accounts-committee-pac\/","title":{"rendered":"Public Accounts Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Public Accounts Committee Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the reconstituted Public Accounts Committee (PAC) convened and took up certain subjects for examination.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Public Accounts Committee<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>oldest parliamentary committee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in India which <\/span><b>was established in 1921.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>constituted every year.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Chairperson is appointed by the Speaker<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from amongst its Members of Lok Sabha.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Speaker, for the first time, appointed a Member of the Opposition as the Chairperson of the <\/span><b>Committee for 1967-68.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Purpose:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Audits the revenue and expenditure of the Government of India to ensure public funds are spent efficiently and legally.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Functions of PAC<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It examines the CAG audit report on government expenditure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It ensures money sanctioned by Parliament is spent properly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>investigates financial irregularities,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> losses, and inefficiencies in government spending.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Membership<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of <\/span><b>22 members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (15 from Lok Sabha, 7 from Rajya Sabha).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Chairperson:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A Lok Sabha MP, traditionally from the Opposition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Term:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> One year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ministers cannot be members of the PAC.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/reconstituted-pac-meets-bjp-objects-to-panel-taking-up-issuessuomotu\/article71011835.ece\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Public Accounts Committee is the oldest parliamentary committee in India which was established in 1921.
