They are\u00a0<strong>pantheists\u00a0<\/strong>who\u00a0<strong>make provision for the presence of spirits in humans and objects.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Their\u00a0<strong>main deity\u00a0<\/strong>is a virgin goddess called\u00a0<strong>Kanniamma<\/strong>, who is deeply a<strong>ssociated with the cobra.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Irula houses<\/strong>\u00a0are\u00a0<strong>built together in small settlements o<\/strong>r villages\u00a0<strong>called mottas.<\/strong>\u00a0The mottas are usually situated on the edges of steep hills and are surrounded by a few dry fields, gardens, and forests or plantations.<\/li>\n<li>The Irula community is\u00a0<strong>traditionally associated with healing, traditional medicine,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>catching poisonous snakes.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Cattle production is another source of income. In the forests they collect wild resources like honey, frankincense, firewood and the like.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Irulas\u2019\u00a0<strong>knowledge of snakes and snake venom is legendary<\/strong>. They can even locate snakes based on their tracks, smell, and droppings.\n<ul>\n<li>They use traditional knowledge and skills to catch snakes, extract venom, and release the snakes back into the wild without harming them.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Irula Snake Catchers\u2019 Industrial Cooperative Society<\/strong>\u00a0is a\u00a0<strong>major producer of anti-snake venom (ASV) in the country<\/strong>.
