


{"id":26593,"date":"2024-09-15T06:57:34","date_gmt":"2024-09-15T01:27:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=26593"},"modified":"2025-04-08T03:18:04","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T21:48:04","slug":"trilobites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/trilobites\/","title":{"rendered":"What are Trilobites?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Trilobites:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>They are a group of <strong>extinct marine arthropods.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Tri-lob-ite means <strong>three-part-body<\/strong> in Latin.<\/li>\n<li>They <strong>first appeared<\/strong> around <strong>521 million years ago<\/strong>, shortly after the beginning of the <strong>Cambrian period<\/strong>, living through the majority of the Palaeozoic Era for nearly 300 million years.<\/li>\n<li>They <strong>died out at<\/strong> the <strong>end of the Permian<\/strong>, 251 million years ago, killed <strong>by the end Permian mass extinction event<\/strong> that removed over 90% of all species on Earth.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Features:\n<ul>\n<li>They are recognized by their <strong>distinctive three-lobed, three-segmented form.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Trilobites, like other arthropods, had an <strong>external skeleton<\/strong>, called exoskeleton, composed of chitinous material.<\/li>\n<li>Trilobites periodically <strong>shed their exoskeleton to accommodate growth<\/strong>. This process is <strong>called molting<\/strong>. Most fossil trilobites are actually fossil trilobite molts.<\/li>\n<li>Trilobites were the <strong>first group of animals<\/strong> in the animal kingdom <strong>to develop complex eyes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They were also one of the <strong>first organisms to develop multiple appendages for moving around.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Some trilobites could swim, others burrowed or crawled around on muddy sea floors.<\/li>\n<li>The smallest trilobite fossils are a centimeter or less in size. The largest trilobites were more than 70 cm long.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>What are Arthropods?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Arthropods are <strong>invertebrates with<\/strong> a hard <strong>exoskeleton, a segmented body, and jointed appendages.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They make up about <strong>75% of all animals on Earth<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Arthropods are <strong>represented in every habitat<\/strong> on Earth and show a great variety of adaptations.<\/li>\n<li>Arthropods are divided into <strong>four major groups:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>insects;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>myriapods<\/strong> (including centipedes and millipedes);<\/li>\n<li><strong>arachnids<\/strong> (including spiders, mites, and scorpions);<\/li>\n<li><strong>crustaceans<\/strong> (including slaters, prawn, and crabs).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are invertebrates?<\/h3>\n<p>Invertebrates are animals without a backbone or bony skeleton. They range in size from microscopic mites and almost invisible flies to giant squid with soccer-ball-size eyes.
