


{"id":26672,"date":"2024-09-18T10:20:20","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T04:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=26672"},"modified":"2025-10-11T12:09:25","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T06:39:25","slug":"necrotising-fasciitis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/necrotising-fasciitis\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Necrotising fasciitis?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Necrotising fasciitis:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Necrotizing fasciitis, also known as <strong>flesh-eating disease,<\/strong> is a rare and life-threatening<strong> bacterial infection<\/strong> that <strong>affects the tissue under<\/strong> your <strong>skin called fascia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Necrotizing&#8221; means causing tissue death, and &#8220;fasciitis&#8221; refers to fascia inflammation, which is tissue under the skin.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It includes <strong>two types<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Type I, or polymicrobial<\/strong>: This type happens when more than one bacteria, usually a mix of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, causes the infection.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Type II, or monomicrobial<\/strong>: The monomicrobial form is typically caused by one bacteria, group A streptococcus or Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>infection<\/strong> may <strong>get into the body through<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>cuts<\/strong> and scratches<\/li>\n<li><strong>burns<\/strong> and scalds<\/li>\n<li><strong>insect bites<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>surgery<\/li>\n<li>injecting <strong>drugs<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>form of necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI)<\/strong>. These life-threatening infections affect the skin, muscles, and soft tissue and <strong>cause patches of tissue to die.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Necrotising fasciitis <strong>infection typically travels along<\/strong> the <strong>fascial plane,<\/strong> which has a poor blood supply, <strong>leavingthe overlying tissues initially unaffected<\/strong>, potentially <strong>delaying diagnosis<\/strong> and surgical intervention.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>spreads quickly<\/strong> and aggressively in an infected person, <strong>causes tissue death at<\/strong> the <strong>infection site<\/strong>, and <strong>can be deadly if not treated<\/strong> right away.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Early symptoms<\/strong> of this condition include signs and symptoms that <strong>resemble those of the flu.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Later signs<\/strong> and symptoms include Reddened and\/or <strong>discolored skin,Swelling<\/strong> of affected tissues<strong>, Unstable blood flow<\/strong>, <strong>Blisters<\/strong> filled with bloody or yellowish fluid, Tissue death (necrosis), Low <strong>blood pressure, Sepsis,<\/strong> etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Currently, <strong>there isn\u2019t a vaccine<\/strong> to prevent necrotizing fasciitis.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s <strong>treated with antibiotics and surgery<\/strong> to remove damaged tissue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are anaerobic bacteria?<\/h3>\n<p>Anaerobic bacteria are bacteria that do not live or grow when oxygen is present. In humans, these bacteria are most commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract.
