exterior of the Falkland Islands, researchers have just uncovered a buried forest that flourished long before humans or sheep ever set foot on the archipelago.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>About Falkland Islands<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also known as the <\/span><b>Malvinas Islands,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Falkland Islands is an <\/span><b>internally self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>South Atlantic Ocean.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies about <\/span><b>480 km northeast <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the <\/span><b>southern tip of South America<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a similar distance east of the Strait of Magellan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of <\/span><b>two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, together with <\/span><b>776 smaller islands.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two l<\/span><b>arge islands <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><b>separated by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Falkland strait.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The islands are positioned both in the <\/span><b>southern and western hemispheres <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the Earth.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers a total area of 12,173 sq.km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Capital<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The capital and major town is <\/span><b>Stanley, on East Falkland.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Climate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A <\/span><b>cool temperate oceanic climate <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that is characterised by its <\/span><b>lack of extremes.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Demographics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The population is <\/span><b>English-speaking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and consists <\/span><b>primarily of Falklanders of African-Irish descent (88% of population).\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Economy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The economy was <\/span><b>formerly based on agriculture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><b> mainly sheep farming<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but <\/span><b>fishing and tourism currently comprise <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the bulk of economic activity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Currency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The official currency is the <\/span><b>Falkland pound, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which is <\/span><b>on par with the British pound.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>History<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At various times, the islands have <\/span><b>had French, British, Spanish, and Argentine settlements.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Britain reasserted its rule in 1833<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, although <\/span><b>Argentina maintains its claim <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the islands.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>In April 1982, Argentine forces<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> temporarily <\/span><b>occupied <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the islands.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>British administration <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was <\/span><b>restored two months later at the end of the Falklands <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">War.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Most Falklanders favour the archipelago remaining a UK overseas territory,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but its sovereignty status is part of an ongoing dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Government:<\/b>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><b>Executive authority<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is vested in the <\/span><b>British crown,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>islands\u2019 government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b>headed by a governor appointed by the crown.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The islands are <\/span><b>self-governing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, although <\/span><b>foreign affairs and defence <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">matters are <\/span><b>handled by the British government.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> government of the Falkland Islands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also <\/span><b>administers the British overseas territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including the Shag and Clerke rocks, lying from 700 to 2,000 miles (1,100 to 3,200 km) to the east and southeast of the
