{"id":26805,"date":"2024-09-23T01:15:12","date_gmt":"2024-09-22T19:45:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=26805"},"modified":"2025-04-08T04:52:45","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T23:22:45","slug":"koodiyattom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/koodiyattom\/","title":{"rendered":"Koodiyattom"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Koodiyattom:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is one of the <strong>oldest traditional theatre<\/strong> forms of Kerala and is based on Sanskrit theatre traditions.<\/li>\n<li>The prefix \u201ckuti\u201d in Malayalam language primarily means \u201c<strong>combined\u201d or \u201ctogether<\/strong>\u201d, and \u201cattam\u201d means \u201cacting\u201d: therefore, the word \u201c<strong>kutiyattam or Koodiyattam<\/strong>\u201d means \u201c<strong>combined acting.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The characters of this theatre form are: <strong>Chakyaar or actor<\/strong>, <strong>Naambiyaar,<\/strong> the instrumentalists and <strong>Naangyaar<\/strong>, those taking on women&#8217;s roles.<\/li>\n<li>In its stylized and codified theatrical language, <strong>neta abhinaya<\/strong> (eye expression) and <strong>hasta abhinaya<\/strong> (the language of gestures) are prominent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pakarnattam<\/strong> is an aspect of Kutiyattam that involves <strong>embodying and emoting male and female roles<\/strong>. Switching between the masculine and feminine and interpreting multiple roles at the same time is considered a challenging skill within the repertoire.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Temple theatres called <strong>Kuttambalams<\/strong> are permanent theatre structures attached to some of the major temples of Kerala.<\/li>\n<li>A striking feature of Kutiyattam is that it <strong>treats single Acts from Sanskrit plays<\/strong> as full-<strong>fledged plays<\/strong>.
