Kazakhstan, in Central Asia, is also being explored as a\u00a0<strong>potential source for India\u2019s mineral requirements<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key facts about the Minerals Security Partnership<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a framework established by the\u00a0<strong>US in 2022.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is an ambitious new initiative to\u00a0<strong>bolster critical mineral supply<\/strong>\u00a0chains, announced by the United States (US) and key partner countries in June 2022.<\/li>\n<li>The goal of the alliance is to ensure that critical minerals are produced, processed, and recycled in a manner that supports the ability of countries to realise the full economic development benefit of their geological endowments.<\/li>\n<li>The focus of the grouping would be on the supply chains of minerals such as Cobalt, Nickel, Lithium and also the 17 \u201crare earth\u201d minerals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India<\/strong>\u00a0was inducted to the MSP in\u00a0<strong>June 2023.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance of Critical minerals:\u00a0<\/strong>These minerals are vital for the production of renewable\u00a0<strong>energy technologies<\/strong>\u00a0such as\u00a0<strong>electric vehicle batteries<\/strong>, solar panels, and wind turbines, have become essential components of the global shift towards clean energy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is a critical mineral?<\/h3>\n<p>There is no global definition of critical minerals, but essentially, they are mineral deposits with high economic vulnerability and high global supply chain risk.
