{"id":26900,"date":"2024-09-27T07:26:13","date_gmt":"2024-09-27T01:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=26900"},"modified":"2025-04-08T05:35:22","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T00:05:22","slug":"great-sandy-desert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/great-sandy-desert\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Sandy Desert"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Great Sandy Desert:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an arid wasteland of <strong>northern Western Australia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>Australia\u2019s second largest desert<\/strong>, <strong>after<\/strong> the <strong>Great Victoria Desert,<\/strong> and encompasses an area of 284,993 sq.km.<\/li>\n<li>It extends from Eighty Mile Beach on the Indian Ocean eastward into the Northern Territory and from Kimberley Downs southward to the Tropic of Capricorn and the Gibson Desert.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is typified by <strong>longitudinal sand ridges<\/strong>, chains of <strong>large salt lakes<\/strong>, and occasional low rocky hills interlaced with <strong>Triodia (Spinifex) grass<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Gibson Desertlies to the south,<\/strong> and the <strong>Tanami Desertlies to the east<\/strong> of the Great Sandy Desert.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Climate<\/strong>: It experiences exceptionally high daytime temperatures and overnight temperatures, along with far below average humidity levels.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The region is not very populated. The main population is made up of Indigenous Australians. There are two <strong>main tribes; Martu<\/strong> in the west <strong>and Pintupi<\/strong> to the east.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are Salt Lakes?<\/h3>\n<p>Salt lakes are widespread and are found under a range of conditions, including cold and hot temperatures. They are, however, mostly confined to semiarid to arid regions where evaporation exceeds precipitation.
