{"id":26968,"date":"2024-09-30T09:36:33","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T04:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=26968"},"modified":"2025-04-08T06:08:03","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T00:38:03","slug":"peechi-vazhani-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/peechi-vazhani-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Peechi -Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Peechi -Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>: It is located in <strong>Thrissur District, Kerala.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Spread across 125 sq. km, the Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1958.<\/li>\n<li>It is situated in the <strong>catchment area of<\/strong> the <strong>Peechi and Vazhani Dams<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>part of the Palapilli-Nelliampathy forests<\/strong> and forms the northern boundary of the Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation<\/strong>: Forest Types include <strong>tropical evergreen forests<\/strong>, <strong>tropical semievergreen<\/strong> forests, <strong>moist deciduous<\/strong> forests, etc.<\/li>\n<li>The terrain is undulating, the altitude varies from 100 to 914 m, with the highest peak being Ponmudi.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>: There are more than 50 different <strong>kinds of orchids,<\/strong> innumerable <strong>rare medicinal plants,<\/strong> and trees of high commercial value like <strong>teak, rosewood,<\/strong> and so on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Fauna<\/strong>: The wildlife population includes over 25 types of mammals, including carnivores like the <strong>leopard, the tiger,<\/strong> and the <strong>fox,<\/strong> and herbivores like the <strong>elk, deer, barking deer,<\/strong> spotted deer, the gaur, and the elephant.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Rosewood?<\/h3>\n<p>Rosewood refers to several different tree species from the genus Dalbergia. Some common varieties used for furniture include Brazilian rosewood, Indian rosewood, and Madagascar rosewood. All rosewood trees have dark, richly colored heartwood that develops distinctive streaks and patterns as the tree ages.
