{"id":27046,"date":"2024-10-05T11:19:31","date_gmt":"2024-10-05T05:49:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27046"},"modified":"2025-04-08T06:43:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T01:13:02","slug":"pseumenes-siangensis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pseumenes-siangensis\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Pseumenes siangensis?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Pseumenes siangensis:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>new species of wasp<\/strong> belonging to genus Pseumenes.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>genus Pseumenes <\/strong>belongs to the <strong>subfamily Eumeninae<\/strong>, commonly <strong>called potter wasps.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is primarily distributed across the <strong>Oriental region.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These are <strong>solitary wasps<\/strong> identified with their <strong>construction of small, pot-like mud structures<\/strong> that they <strong>use as nests for their larvae.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Around 3,795 species of these wasps have been described across 205 genera.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>India<\/strong> has <strong>previously reported only one species<\/strong> of the genus, making the recent discovery of Pseumenes siangensis \u201ca significant addition\u201d to the country\u2019s wasp diversity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pseumenes siangensis<\/strong> was <strong>discovered from Upper Siang District<\/strong> of <strong>Arunachal Pradesh,<\/strong> in the Eastern Himalayas.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>named after Siang Valley<\/strong> where it was found.<\/li>\n<li>At about 30.2 mm in length, the new species differs from others in having specific morphological features and colour patterns.<\/li>\n<li>It has critical role in <strong>controlling pest populations<\/strong> as the larvae primarily feed on caterpillars and other insects.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is entomology?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a branch of zoology dealing with the scientific study of insects.
