{"id":27148,"date":"2024-10-09T09:45:36","date_gmt":"2024-10-09T04:15:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27148"},"modified":"2025-04-08T07:28:06","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T01:58:06","slug":"mace-observatory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mace-observatory\/","title":{"rendered":"MACE Observatory"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About MACE Observatory:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment<\/strong> (MACE) Observatory is the largest imaging Cherenkov telescope in Asia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Location:<\/strong> It is located at an altitude of ~4,300 m, <strong>at Hanle, Ladakh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is Asia\u2019s Largest and World\u2019s Highest Imaging Cherenkov Observatory.<\/li>\n<li>The MACE project aims to <strong>foster international collaborations<\/strong>, advancing India\u2019s contributions to space research and bolstering India\u2019s position in the global scientific community.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is indigenously <strong>built by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre<\/strong> (<strong>BARC)<\/strong> with support from <strong>Electronics Corporation of India<\/strong> (<strong>ECIL)<\/strong>, Hyderabad, and other Indian industry partners.<\/li>\n<li>It will help the scientific community enhance its understanding in the fields of <strong>astrophysics, fundamental physics<\/strong>, and <strong>particle acceleration mechanisms<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The MACE telescope will <strong>observe high-energy gamma rays<\/strong>, contributing to global efforts to understand the most energetic phenomena in the universe, such as supernovae, black holes, and gamma-ray bursts.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It plays a significant role not only in advancing scientific research but also in supporting the <strong>socio-economic development<\/strong> of Ladakh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Cherenkov radiation?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a form of energy that we can perceive as a blue glow emitted when the electrically charged particles that compose atoms (i.e. electrons and protons) are moving at speeds faster than that of light in a specific medium.
