


{"id":27176,"date":"2024-10-11T08:46:56","date_gmt":"2024-10-11T03:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27176"},"modified":"2025-04-08T07:40:26","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T02:10:26","slug":"myopia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/myopia\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Myopia?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Myopia:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Myopia, also known as\u00a0<strong>nearsightedness,<\/strong>\u00a0is an eye condition that\u00a0<strong>causes<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>blurry distance vision.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>People who are nearsighted have\u00a0<strong>more trouble seeing things that are far away<\/strong>\u00a0(such as when driving) than things that are close up (such as when reading or using a computer).<\/li>\n<li><strong>What causes Myopia?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>For normal vision, light passes through the clear cornea at the front of the eye and is focused by the lens onto the surface of the retina, which is the lining of the back of the eye that contains light-sensing cells.<\/li>\n<li><strong>People<\/strong>\u00a0who are\u00a0<strong>nearsighted typically have eyeballs<\/strong>\u00a0that are\u00a0<strong>too long from front to back.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>As a result,\u00a0<strong>light\u00a0<\/strong>entering the eye\u00a0is<strong>\u00a0focused too far forward<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>in front of the retina\u00a0<\/strong>instead of on its surface.<\/li>\n<li>It is this change that\u00a0<strong>causes distant objects to appear blurry.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>longer the eyeball is<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>farther forward light rays\u00a0<\/strong>will be<strong>\u00a0focused<\/strong>\u00a0and the more\u00a0<strong>severely nearsighted a person<\/strong>\u00a0will be.<\/li>\n<li>Eye experts are still unsure of the exact cause of myopia, but believe it to be a\u00a0<strong>mix of hereditary and environmental factors.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Nearsightedness usually\u00a0<strong>begins in childhood or adolescence<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It tends to\u00a0<strong>worsen with age until adulthood<\/strong>, when it may\u00a0<strong>stop getting worse (stabilize).<\/strong>\u00a0In some people, nearsightedness improves in later adulthood.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Nearsightedness can lead to\u00a0<strong>squinting<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>eyestrain<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>headaches<\/strong>, and significant\u00a0<strong>visual impairmen<\/strong>t.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Glasses<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>contact lenses<\/strong>\u00a0can correct myopia in children and adults.<\/li>\n<li>For adults only (with rare exceptions for children), there are several types of\u00a0<strong>refractive surgeries<\/strong>\u00a0that can also correct myopia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Negative (minus) powered lenses<\/strong>\u00a0are used to correct nearsightedness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is cornea?<\/h3>\n<p>The cornea is the clear tissue covering the front of your eye.
