{"id":27180,"date":"2024-10-11T08:15:38","date_gmt":"2024-10-11T02:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27180"},"modified":"2025-04-08T07:42:12","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T02:12:12","slug":"footrot-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/footrot-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Footrot Disease?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Footrot Disease:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>highly contagious disease affecting<\/strong> the <strong>interdigital (between the toes)<\/strong> tissue <strong>of ruminants.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is one of the most common causes of lameness <strong>in cattle and sheep<\/strong> and can result in serious economic loss.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Once present in a herd\/<\/strong>flock, footrot can be very <strong>difficult to control.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Causative Agent<\/strong>: It is caused by the <strong>Dichelobacter nodosus bacteria<\/strong> in association with a number of other bacteria.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transmission<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Feet infected<\/strong> with D. nodosus serve as the <strong>source of infection for other cattle<\/strong> by contaminating the environment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Infectious agents<\/strong> gain <strong>entry through the skinas a consequence of injury<\/strong> caused by sharp pieces of stone, metal, wood, stubble, or thorns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Footrot tends to be <strong>seasonal<\/strong>, with the <strong>highest incidence<\/strong> occurring <strong>during the wet seasons.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Expression of virulent footrot disease includes:\n<ul>\n<li>chronic and <strong>severe lesions<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>lameness<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>loss of production<\/li>\n<li><strong>death, in severe cases.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The interdigital tissue should be cleaned, debrided, and disinfected.<\/li>\n<li><strong>One antibiotic treatment<\/strong> is usually <strong>adequate if administered on the first day<\/strong> of disease.<\/li>\n<li>Recovery is generally observed in three to four days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are antibiotics?<\/h3>\n<p>Antibiotics are medicines that fight bacterial infections in people and animals.
