Some internal organs, including the excretory organs, are duplicated in each segment.<\/li>\n<li>They <strong>don\u2019t have lungs<\/strong>; they<strong> breathe through their skin.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They also <strong>lack eyes<\/strong>, so instead <strong>use receptors in their skin to sense light and touch.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Earthworms have five \u201chearts\u201d that pump blood through their bodies.<\/li>\n<li>Their <strong>food<\/strong> consists of <strong>decaying plants and other organisms<\/strong>; as they eat, however, earthworms <strong>also ingest large amounts of soil, sand<\/strong>, and tiny pebbles.<\/li>\n<li>Earthworms are <strong>hermaphrodites<\/strong>, meaning <strong>an individual worm has<\/strong> both <strong>male and female reproductive organs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Earthworms\u2019 <strong>breakdown dead and decaying organic matter<\/strong> into rich humus soil, thereby <strong>supporting plant growth<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Earthworm <strong>releases waste from their bodies called castings<\/strong>.
