{"id":27241,"date":"2024-10-14T01:42:36","date_gmt":"2024-10-13T20:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27241"},"modified":"2025-04-08T08:10:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T02:40:13","slug":"kalleshwar-temple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kalleshwar-temple\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalleshwar Temple"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Kalleshwar Temple:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>Hindu temple<\/strong> located in the town of Bagali in the Davangere district of <strong>Karnataka<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is one of the oldest temples in the region and is dedicated to <strong>Lord Shiva.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>construction<\/strong> of the temple <strong>spans the rule of two Kannada dynasties<\/strong>: the <strong>Rashtrakuta Dynasty<\/strong> during the <strong>mid-10th century<\/strong>, and the <strong>Western Chalukya Empire,during<\/strong> the reign of <strong>founding King Tailapa II<\/strong> around 987 AD.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Architecture:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The temple is a <strong>single shrine construction<\/strong> with an adjoining hall (mantapa).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The temple, which faces east, comprises a sanctum, an antechamber (or vestibule or antarala, whose tower is called the sukhanasi), that connects the sanctum to a gathering hall (sabhamantapa), which is preceded by a main hall (mukhamantapa).<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Shikara<\/strong> of the temple is a perfect example of early <strong>Cholan architecture<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The temple houses a <strong>large Shivalinga<\/strong>, which is believed to be more than a thousand years old.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>This temple is protected as a <strong>monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)?<\/h3>\n<p>ASI was established in the year 1861 by Alexander Cunningham. After independence, it was established as a statutory body under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. ASI is responsible for archaeological research and the conservation and preservation of cultural monuments in the country.
