


{"id":27265,"date":"2024-10-15T12:03:21","date_gmt":"2024-10-15T06:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27265"},"modified":"2025-04-08T08:20:51","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T02:50:51","slug":"mount-adams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mount-adams\/","title":{"rendered":"Mount Adams"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Mount Adams:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>stratovolcano<\/strong> located in <strong>Washington State, United States.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>At 12,277 feet (3,742 meters) high and 18 miles (29 kilometers) wide, Mount Adams is the <strong>largest active volcano in Washington<\/strong>, surpassing Mount Rainier \u2014 the state&#8217;s highest peak \u2014 by volume.<\/li>\n<li>Mount Adams lies in the <strong>middle of the Mount Adams volcanic field<\/strong>\u2014a 1,250 sq.km area comprising at least 120, mostly <strong>basaltic volcanoes<\/strong> that form spatter and scoria cones, shield volcanoes, and some extensive lava flows.<\/li>\n<li>Mount Adams <strong>supports over 10 active glaciers<\/strong> that provide water to the forests, streams, and meadows below.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>most recent eruption<\/strong> at the site occurred sometime between <strong>3,800 and 7,600 years ago,<\/strong> when humanity was still in the <strong>Stone Age.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is a Stratovolcano?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stratovolcanoes (also known as composite volcanoes) are <strong>tall, steep, and cone-shaped<\/strong> types of volcanoes.<\/li>\n<li>Unlike flat shield volcanoes, they have <strong>higher peaks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They are <strong>built of successive layers of ash and lava.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>magma<\/strong> (molten rock) <strong>within the volcano is viscous<\/strong> and <strong>often contains trapped gas<\/strong>, causing <strong>explosive eruptions<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Stratovolcanoes <strong>occur at the margins of tectonic plates<\/strong>, large sections of Earth&#8217;s crust that move together.\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>The continental plates, composed of less dense material, override the oceanic plates.<\/li>\n<li>Magma generated from the subducting plate rises and squeezes into cracks, eventually reaching the surface in a volcanic eruption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>They comprise the <strong>largest percentage (~60%) of<\/strong> the Earth&#8217;s <strong>individual volcanoes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Approximately 85%<\/strong> of stratovolcanoes are <strong>located around the Pacific Ocean<\/strong>, forming what is called the \u201c<strong>Ring of Fire.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are lava flows?<\/h3>\n<p>A lava flow is an outpouring of molten basalt rock which comes from a non-explosive eruption. The flow travels downhill from the eruption source. As the flow moves over new ground, it typically expands by sending out lobes or &#8220;toes,&#8221; in the case of highly fluid lavas.
