


{"id":27308,"date":"2024-10-17T05:39:35","date_gmt":"2024-10-17T00:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27308"},"modified":"2025-10-13T14:00:41","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T08:30:41","slug":"battle-of-walong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/battle-of-walong\/","title":{"rendered":"Battle of Walong"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Battle of Walong:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Set <strong>during the 1962 Sino-Indian War<\/strong>, it occurred at the <strong>easternmost tip of Arunachal Pradesh,<\/strong> near the <strong>tri-junction of India, China, and Myanmar<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>As Chinese forces launched a full-scale offensive, <strong>Indian troops<\/strong> were <strong>tasked with defending Walong,<\/strong> the <strong>only advanced landing ground in the region<\/strong>, a vital supply route that connected remote border posts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>After Tawang<\/strong>, <strong>Walong was China\u2019s main offensive in<\/strong> the <strong>eastern sector <\/strong>during the war.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Chinese had overwhelming numbers<\/strong> on their side\u2014an estimated 15,000 soldiers to India\u2019s 2,500, accompanied by <strong>superior weaponry and artillery<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Yet, despite being heavily outnumbered and outgunned, Indian soldiers displayed remarkable resolve.<\/li>\n<li>The Indian Army units involved included battalions from the Kumaon Regiment, Sikh Regiment, Gorkha Rifles, Assam Rifles, and Dogra Regiment.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Their tenacity and courage <strong>managed to hold back the Chinese advance for nearly three weeks<\/strong>, despite dire shortages of ammunition and supplies.<\/li>\n<li>The battle resulted in <strong>significant losses for India<\/strong>, with around <strong>830 soldiers either killed<\/strong>, <strong>wounded, or captured.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Yet, their defence stands as a powerful symbol of the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Army.<\/li>\n<li>It went down in history as the <strong>only Indian counterattack during the 1962 war<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: Where is Tawang located?<\/h3>\n<p>Tawang is located in Arunachal Pradesh, close to the border with Bhutan and Tibet. Tawang has a rich and fascinating history, dating back to the 17th century when it was founded by the Monpa people.
