{"id":27351,"date":"2026-09-19T12:48:21","date_gmt":"2026-09-19T07:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27351"},"modified":"2026-09-19T16:48:38","modified_gmt":"2026-09-19T11:18:38","slug":"next-generation-missile-vessels-ngmv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/next-generation-missile-vessels-ngmv\/","title":{"rendered":"Next-Generation Missile Vessels"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Next-Generation Missile Vessels Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cochin Shipyard Limited recently laid the keel for the first of six Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV) being built for the Indian Navy, marking the shipbuilder&#8217;s entry into construction of advanced weapon-intensive platforms. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Next-Generation Missile Vessels\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NGMVs are envisaged as <\/span><b>high-speed vessels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> equipped with an array of weapons and sensors, being <\/span><b>built for the Indian Navy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Six NGMVs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are being<\/span><b> built by government-run Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at a cost of Rs 9,805 crore.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Delivery of the vessels is scheduled to commence from March 2027.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>primary role<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the ships would be to provide <\/span><b>offensive capability <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">against enemy warships, merchantmen, and land targets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vessels are intended for <\/span><b>maritime strike and anti-surface warfare operations <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and will also provide the Navy with <\/span><b>sea-denial capability,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> particularly around strategically important maritime choke points.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In defensive operations, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the ships are expected to<\/span><b> support local naval defence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>protection of offshore development areas.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Next-Generation Missile Vessels <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The core of the NGMV <\/span><b>propulsion <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">system is the <\/span><b>LM2500<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>marine gas turbine, manufactured by the American engine manufacturer General Electric<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. LM2500 is engineered to unleash superior power while meeting stealth requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each vessel will have a complement of around <\/span><b>80 personnel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a maximum speed of approximately 33 knots (61 kmph).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These corvettes<\/span><b> can remain at sea for 10 consecutive days<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and extend their stay by refueling from tankers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They will be equipped with <\/span><b>surface-to-surface missile systems, anti-missile defence systems, air-surveillance radars, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and fire-control radars.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NGMVs\u2019 <\/span><b>primary weapon <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/brahmos-missile\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>BrahMos supersonic<\/b><\/a><\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/brahmos-missile\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0<\/a>cruise missile,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> capable of striking targets at long ranges.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vessels will also be equipped with advanced integrated platform management systems, propulsion and auxiliary machinery, power generation and distribution systems and damage-control machinery.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/ports-shipping\/cochin-shipyard-lays-keel-for-first-of-six-next-generation-missile-vessels-for-navy\/134337420\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>ET<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Next-Generation Missile Vessels are envisaged as high-speed vessels equipped with an array of weapons and sensors, being built for the Indian Navy.
