{"id":27446,"date":"2024-10-22T08:55:29","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T03:25:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27446"},"modified":"2025-04-08T09:45:03","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T04:15:03","slug":"nature-restoration-law-nrl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nature-restoration-law-nrl\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Nature Restoration Law (NRL)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Nature Restoration Law (NRL):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>European Union (EU) law<\/strong> to tacklethe triple crises of<strong> climate change<\/strong>, <strong>biodiversity loss,<\/strong> and <strong>environmental degradation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>first continent-wide, comprehensive law of its kind.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a key element of the EU Biodiversity Strategy, which <strong>sets binding targetsto restore degraded ecosystems<\/strong>, in particular those with the most potential to capture and store carbon and to prevent and reduce the impact of natural disasters.\n<ul>\n<li>Under the NRL, <strong>Member States<\/strong> will <strong>have to restore at least 20% of the EU\u2019s land and sea by 2030,<\/strong> including terrestrial, coastal, and freshwater, forest, agricultural, and urban areas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>By 2050<\/strong>, the <strong>measures should extend to all ecosystems &#8220;requiring restoration&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The EU NRL also targets an <strong>obligation to improve urban green spaces<\/strong>, contribute to <strong>free-flowing rivers by removing artificial barriers<\/strong>, <strong>increase pollinator populations, <\/strong>and contribute to the target of<strong> 3 billion additional trees<\/strong> throughout the EU.<\/li>\n<li>Member <strong>States must adopt &#8220;restoration plans&#8221;<\/strong> detailing how they intend to achieve these targets and ensure that the restored areas do not significantly deteriorate.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>While drafting these Nature Restoration Plans, Member States also <strong>need to consider socio-economic impacts and benefits<\/strong> and estimate the financial needs for its implementation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the European Union (EU)?<\/h3>\n<p>The EU is a political and economic union of 27 member states located primarily in Europe.
