{"id":27573,"date":"2024-10-27T01:44:19","date_gmt":"2024-10-26T20:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27573"},"modified":"2025-04-08T10:42:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T05:12:56","slug":"abhay-anti-submarine-warfare-shallow-water-craft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/abhay-anti-submarine-warfare-shallow-water-craft\/","title":{"rendered":"Abhay Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Abhay Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>built by<\/strong> India&#8217;s leading shipbuilding and repairing company,<strong> Garden Reach Shipbuilders &amp; Engineers (GRSE).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This vessel is the <strong>seventh in an eight-ship ASW SWC series<\/strong>, an initiative from a 2019 contract between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and GRSE.\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>These ships are being designed with over <strong>80 percent indigenous content.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Designed for anti-submarine operations<\/strong> in coastal waters, these advanced craft are also capable of <strong>Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO<\/strong>) and <strong>mine-laying activities, <\/strong>enhancing the Navy\u2019s operational reach and defensive capabilities along India\u2019s coastlines.<\/li>\n<li>These 77-meter-long, 10-meter-wide warships are engineered for powerful <strong>subsurface surveillance<\/strong> in coastal waters.<\/li>\n<li>They can <strong>track various surface and underwater targets<\/strong> and conduct <strong>coordinated anti-submarine operationswith aircraft.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The ASW SWCs are <strong>compact, waterjet-propelled vessels<\/strong> capable of reaching speeds up to 25 knots, providing agility and swift response in tactical situations.<\/li>\n<li>Equipped with an <strong>advanced anti-submarine warfare suite<\/strong>, these ships carry <strong>lightweight torpedoes, ASW rockets<\/strong>, and <strong>mines<\/strong>, making them formidable assets for coastal defence.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>They are armed with a 30 mm Close-in Weapon System (CIWS) and 12.7 mm Stabilized Remote-Control Guns, ensuring a robust defence against aerial and surface threats.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The ships are fitted with a Hull-Mounted Sonar and Low-Frequency Variable Depth Sonar for comprehensive underwater surveillance, enhancing their detection and engagement capabilities in anti-submarine operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are torpedoes?<\/h3>\n<p>A torpedo is a type of missile or bomb fired underwater.
