a rise of nearly 40% compared to last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sambhar Lake<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is the largest saltwater <\/span><b>lake located <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the districts of Nagaur and Jaipur in <\/span><b>Rajasthan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This saline wetland is elliptical in shape, with a length of 35.5 km and a breadth varying between 3 km and 11 km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers an area in excess of 200 sq.km., <\/span><b>surrounded on<\/b> <b>all sides by the Aravalli hills.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The water from two major <\/span><b>ephemeral streams,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> namely <\/span><b>Mendha and Runpangarh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, along with numerous rivulets and surface runoff feed the lake.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was designated as a <\/span><b>Ramsar site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the year 1990.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Salt Production:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is known for the <\/span><b>production of brine\/salt<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and also houses one of the largest salt manufacturing units in the country.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several migrating birds visit the waterbody during the winter.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is the most important <\/span><b>wintering area for flamingoes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (both Phoniconaias minor and Phoenicopterus roseus) in India outside the Rann of Kachchh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other migratory species like <\/span><b>pelicans,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> common shelduck, redshank, and common sandpiper, black-winged stilt, Kentish plover, and Ringed plover, Ruff, and Sociable lapwing are also found here.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:
