


{"id":27653,"date":"2024-10-30T01:57:49","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T20:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27653"},"modified":"2025-04-08T11:18:23","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T05:48:23","slug":"simhachalam-temple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/simhachalam-temple\/","title":{"rendered":"Simhachalam Temple"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Simhachalam Temple:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Simhachalam Temple, originally known as <strong>Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple<\/strong>, is a Hindu temple located in <strong>Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is dedicated to the <strong>incarnation (avatar) of Vishnu<\/strong> known as <strong>Narasimha<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>(the man-lion).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>History<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It was <strong>constructed<\/strong> in the <strong>11th century<\/strong> by the <strong>Gajapati rulers of Odisha<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kulottunga Chola I of Tamilnadu<\/strong>, <strong>made endowments<\/strong> to this temple, as evidenced from inscriptions dating back to the year 1087.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Vengi Chalukyas of Andhra Pradesh<\/strong> renovated the original shrine in the 11th century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Much of the structure<\/strong> as it stands today is the <strong>result of renovation by Narasimha I, of the Eastern Ganga dynasty<\/strong> in the second quarter of the 13th century CE.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Krishna Deva Raya,<\/strong> the Vijayanagar monarch, <strong>visited this temple<\/strong> in the year 1516, as seen from inscriptions here.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Architecture:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The temple\u2019s architecture is a <strong>blend of Kalinga and Dravidian styles<\/strong>, with its main sanctum adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures.<\/li>\n<li>The presiding deity, Lord Narasimha, is depicted with a human torso and a lion\u2019s face, exuding a sense of divine power and grace.<\/li>\n<li>It boasts of a beautiful <strong>stone chariot drawn by horses.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Kalyana Mandapa<\/strong> within the temple has <strong>16 pillars with bas reliefs<\/strong> depicting the incarnations of Vishnu.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The outer walls of the sanctum depict images of a royal personality (said to be King Narasimha) in various postures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: Who was Krishnadevaraya?<\/h3>\n<p>The greatest emperor in the Vijayanagar empire\u2019s history was Krishnadevaraya(17 January 1471-17 October 1529). He presided over the Tuluva Dynasty as its third king.
