{"id":27661,"date":"2025-10-27T12:42:26","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T07:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27661"},"modified":"2025-10-29T14:29:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T08:59:50","slug":"comprehensive-nuclear-test-ban-treaty-organization-ctbto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/comprehensive-nuclear-test-ban-treaty-organization-ctbto\/","title":{"rendered":"Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an international organization <strong>based in Vienna<\/strong>, <strong>Austria<\/strong>, established to <strong>implement the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), <\/strong>which aims to ban all nuclear explosions worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>CTBT is a <strong>multilateral treaty<\/strong> opened for signature in 1996 by which <strong>states agree to ban all nuclear explosions in all environments<\/strong>, for <strong>military or civilian purposes<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>treaty envisages the mechanisms<\/strong> that <strong>control such prohibition<\/strong>, including distant monitoring and data collection.<\/li>\n<li>It was signed by 183 states and ratified by 164 but has <strong>not entered into force as eight specific states among 44<\/strong> (so-called <strong>Annex-2 states whose signatures are required<\/strong> for the Treaty to enter into force, namely the <strong>US, China, Iran, Egypt, Israel, India, Pakistan, and North Korea)<\/strong> have <strong>not ratified the treaty yet<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>In order to verify compliance with its provisions, the treaty <strong>establishes a global network of monitoring facilities<\/strong> and allows for on-site inspections of suspicious events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is a Nuclear Weapon?<\/h3>\n<p>A nuclear weapon is a type of explosive device that derives its destructive power from nuclear reactions, either fission (splitting atomic nuclei) or a combination of fission and fusion (combining atomic nuclei).
