{"id":27724,"date":"2024-11-03T12:41:49","date_gmt":"2024-11-03T07:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27724"},"modified":"2025-04-08T11:50:22","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T06:20:22","slug":"sendai-framework-for-disaster-risk-reduction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sendai-framework-for-disaster-risk-reduction\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was the <strong>first major agreement of<\/strong> the <strong>post-2015 development agenda<\/strong> and provides member states with <strong>concrete actions to protect development gains from<\/strong> the <strong>risk of disaster<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>adopted<\/strong> by the UN member states <strong>at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan<\/strong>, on March 18, <strong>2015<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>successor<\/strong> instrument <strong>to the Hyogo Framework for Action<\/strong> (HFA) 2005-2015.<\/li>\n<li>The Sendai Framework <strong>advocates for:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses<\/strong> in lives, livelihoods, and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural, and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities, and countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It recognizes that the <strong>State has the primary role<\/strong> to reduce disaster risk, but that <strong>responsibility should be shared with other stakeholders,<\/strong> including local government, the private sector, and other stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Four Priorities:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Understanding<\/strong> disaster risk<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening<strong> disaster risk governance<\/strong> to manage disaster risk<\/li>\n<li><strong>Investing<\/strong> in disaster risk reduction for resilience<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enhancing disaster preparedness<\/strong> for effective response and &#8220;Building Back Better&#8221; in recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Targets:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Substantially <strong>reduce global disaster mortality<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Substantially reduce the number of affected people globally.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reduce<\/strong> direct disaster <strong>economic loss <\/strong>in relation to global GDP.<\/li>\n<li>Substantially <strong>reduce<\/strong> disaster <strong>damage to critical infrastructure<\/strong> and disruption of basic services.<\/li>\n<li>Substantially <strong>increase the number of countrieswith<\/strong> national and local <strong>disaster risk reduction strategies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Substantially <strong>enhance international cooperation<\/strong> to developing countries.<\/li>\n<li>Substantially increase the availability of and access to <strong>multi-hazard early warning systems<\/strong> and disaster risk information and assessments to people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Sendai Framework <strong>covers technological hazards in addition to natural hazards<\/strong>, which represent an <strong>evolution compared to<\/strong> its predecessor, the <strong>Hyogo Framework<\/strong> for Action.\n<ul>\n<li>These technological hazards include chemical\/industrial hazards further to radiological, nuclear, biological, and others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>works hand in hand with<\/strong> the <strong>other 2030 Agenda agreements<\/strong>, including the <strong>Paris Agreement <\/strong>on Climate Change, the <strong>Addis Ababa Action Agenda<\/strong> on Financing for Development, the <strong>New Urban Agenda<\/strong>, and ultimately the <strong>Sustainable Development Goals.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)is tasked tosupport the implementation,<\/strong> follow-up and review of the Sendai Framework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are the stages of a disaster risk management cycle?<\/h3>\n<p>The disaster risk management cycle consists of four phases: Prevention\/Mitigation and Preparedness in the pre-disaster stage, and Response and Rehabilitation\/Reconstruction in the post-disaster stage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/india-committed-to-sendai-framework-for-disaster-risk-reduction-pms-aide-pk-mishra\/article68822730.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><u>India committed to Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction: PM\u2019s aide P.K.
