He was a Tangkhul Naga.<\/li>\n<li>During World War II he became the first Manipuri to get the King\u2019s Commission.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bob Khathing\u2019s Army service<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>He was given the coveted award of <strong>Member of British Empire<\/strong> (MBE) for his role in galvanising Naga support against the Japanese in Burma and India and also the <strong>Military Cross<\/strong> (MC) for his acts of bravery above and beyond the call of duty.<\/li>\n<li>Bob was commissioned into the <strong>9\/11 Hyderabad Regiment<\/strong> (now Kumaon Regiment). In 1942, he was transferred to the Assam Regiment in Shillong.<\/li>\n<li>During the Second World War, he was part of a <strong>guerrilla outfit called Victor Force,<\/strong> raised by the British to combat the Japanese on the Burma-India road.<\/li>\n<li>He was <strong>appointed as advisor<\/strong> to a <strong>force known as SANCOL<\/strong>, comprising 153 Gurkha Parachute Battalion which was formed in June 1944 under command of Major John Saunders, to this force.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>He led the expedition to peacefully <strong>integrate Tawang into India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He was also instrumental in establishing <strong>essential military and security frameworks<\/strong>, such as the Sashastra Seema Bal, Nagaland Armed Police, and the Naga Regiment.<\/li>\n<li>He was the first <strong>person of tribal origin<\/strong> to <strong>serve as an ambassador for India<\/strong> in then Burma, now Myanmar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Sashastra Seema Bal?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a border guarding force of India deployed along its borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
