{"id":27797,"date":"2024-11-07T04:41:30","date_gmt":"2024-11-06T23:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27797"},"modified":"2025-04-08T12:24:03","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T06:54:03","slug":"bidar-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bidar-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Bidar Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Bidar Fort:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Bidar Fort is <strong>situated in Bidar city of the northern plateau of Karnataka,<\/strong> India.<\/li>\n<li>The history of Bidar Fort dates back over 500 years, starting with the reign of the Western Chalukya dynasty.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sultan Ahmed Shah Wali of the Bahmani dynasty <\/strong>made Bidar his capital in 1430 and renovated it as an impressive citadel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Arcitecture:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It had been <strong>built of trap rock<\/strong>. <strong>Stone and mortar<\/strong> were used to build the fort-walls.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>entrance gate has a lofty dome<\/strong>, the interior of which had been painted in bright colours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bidar Fort includes:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Islamic and Persian architecture,<\/li>\n<li>Seven main entrances,<\/li>\n<li>37 bastions (Balcony like structures extending from the fort) of octagonal shape with metal shielded cannons,<\/li>\n<li>Mosques and mahals,<\/li>\n<li>Thirty plus Islamic monuments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About Bahmani Kingdom:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Bahmani Kingdom rose to power after the Turkish Governor <strong>Ala-ud-din Hassan Bahman Shan established an independent empire <\/strong>by revolting against the Sultan of Delhi Sultanate, <strong>Muhammad Bin Tughlaq in 1347.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was the <strong>first independent Islamic kingdom in South India<\/strong> that rose to power.<\/li>\n<li>It was established in present-day <strong>Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They set up the capital in <strong>Ahsanabad (Gulbarga) between 1347 and 1425 and later moved to Bidar.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There were a <strong>total of fourteen sultans ruling over this kingdom<\/strong>. Among them, Alauddin Bahman Shah, Muhammad Shah I and Firoz Shah were important.<\/li>\n<li>The Bahmani kingdom <strong>reached its peak under the guidance of Mahmud Gawan<\/strong>, who served with great distinction as Prime Minister of three Bahamni Sultans for about twenty-three years from 1458 to 1481 AD.<\/li>\n<li>Mahmud Gawan extended the empire by reconquering Goa, which was under the Vijayanagar Empire at the time.<\/li>\n<li>Around 1518, <strong>Krishnadeva Raya of the Vijayanagar Empire defeated the last ruler of the Bahmani Empire.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1. Who was Krishnadevaraya?<\/h3>\n<p>The greatest emperor in the Vijayanagar empire\u2019s history was Krishnadevaraya(17 January 1471-17 October 1529). He presided over the Tuluva Dynasty as its third king.
