{"id":27856,"date":"2024-11-09T12:53:05","date_gmt":"2024-11-09T07:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27856"},"modified":"2025-04-08T14:54:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T09:24:34","slug":"horn-of-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/horn-of-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Horn of Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Horn of Africa:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the easternmost extension of <strong>African land.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It comprises the countries of <strong>Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Part of the Horn of Africa region is also known as the <strong>Somali peninsula.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It contains such diverse areas as the highlands of the <strong>Ethiopian Plateau, the Ogaden desert, and the Eritrean and Somalian coasts<\/strong> and is home to the Amhara, Tigray, Oromo, and Somali peoples, among others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Costal line:<\/strong> Its coasts are washed by the <strong>Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Indian Ocean<\/strong>, and it has long been in contact with the Arabian Peninsula and southwestern Asia.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Horn of Africa is separated from the <strong>Arabian Peninsula<\/strong> by <strong>the Bab el-Mandeb<\/strong> Strait (the strait connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden).<\/li>\n<li>The region faces severe food insecurity, worsened by the climate crisis and conflict, and malnutrition and cholera are key challenges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is a Gulf?<\/h3>\n<p>The Gulf is a portion of the sea that is almost surrounded by land except one narrow opening. Gulfs are formed when a giant rock collapses or when a piece of land sinks. This causes a big indentation in the area, and the water eventually fills it up.
