


{"id":27954,"date":"2024-11-14T05:19:18","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T23:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27954"},"modified":"2025-04-08T15:38:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T10:08:55","slug":"crinum-andhricum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/crinum-andhricum\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Crinum andhricum?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Crinum andhricum:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>new species of flowering plant<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was recorded from the <strong>Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The species was <strong>named after Andhra Pradesh<\/strong> in recognition of the State where it was first found.<\/li>\n<li>It is part of the <strong>Amaryllidaceae family.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the latest addition to India\u2019s Crinum species<strong>,<\/strong> bringing the total to 16, with several being endemic to India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It has distinct features, including <strong>wider, oblanceolate perianth lobes<\/strong> (the outer <strong>part of the flower<\/strong>) and a <strong>greater number of flowers per cluster<\/strong>, producing between 12 and 38 flowers in each.<\/li>\n<li>The plant\u2019s <strong>pedicelled flowers<\/strong> (with a stalk-like structure) make it unique among species in the region.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>flowers<\/strong> of Crinum andhricum are <strong>waxy white<\/strong>, blooming between April and June.<\/li>\n<li>Standing on <strong>a tall stem<\/strong> that reaches up to 100 cm, the plant is <strong>well-suited to dry, rocky crevices<\/strong> in the Eastern Ghats.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The leaves are large, elliptic, and have smooth, entire margins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Based on its current limited distribution and environmental threats, the researchers have given Crinum andhricum a <strong>preliminary status of \u2018Data Deficient\u2019 under the IUCN guidelines.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Eastern Ghats?<\/h3>\n<p>The Eastern Ghats are a discontinuous range of mountains that run in a north-south alignment more or less east of the Deccan plateau and pass through Odisha state in the north and Telangana-Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu state in the south, traversing some parts of Karnataka state, namely, Bellary, Kolar and Chamarajnagar districts.
