


{"id":27962,"date":"2026-07-10T12:02:55","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T06:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=27962"},"modified":"2026-07-10T12:27:00","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T06:57:00","slug":"wildlife-institute-of-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/wildlife-institute-of-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Wildlife Institute of India"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Wildlife Institute of India Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 28th meeting of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Society was recently presided over by the Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Wildlife Institute of India<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>autonomous institution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> established in <\/span><b>1982 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under the <\/span><b>Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Government of India, for nurturing the growth of wildlife science in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Location: Dehradun, Uttarakhand.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an internationally acclaimed institution that <\/span><b>offers training programs, academic courses, and advisory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>wildlife research and management.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Objectives<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Build up scientific knowledge on wildlife resources.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Train personnel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at various levels for conservation and management of wildlife.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Carry out research<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> relevant to management, including the development of techniques appropriate to Indian conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Provide information and advice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on specific wildlife management problems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Collaborate with international organizations <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on wildlife research, management, and training.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop as a <\/span><b>regional centre<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of international importance on<\/span><b> wildlife and natural resource conservation.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The institute carries out <\/span><b>research work in the fields<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of study, which include <\/span><b>biodiversity, policy related to wildlife, endangered species, wildlife management, forensic wildlife research <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">work, eco-development, spatial Modelling, and studies related to changing climatic conditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A large number of <\/span><b>foresters and wildlife managers from other developing countries,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> particularly south and southeast Asia, have been <\/span><b>trained in WII<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> since its establishment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Governance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>At the apex<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the WII&#8217;s governance is the <\/span><b>Society, chaired by the Union Minister of Environment &amp; Forests.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>representatives from Central and State Governments, institutions, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and academia.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The institute&#8217;s <\/span><b>executive arm<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the <\/span><b>Governing Body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>chaired <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the <\/span><b>Secretary (Environment &amp;
