The larval period lasts between 8 and 10 weeks.<\/li>\n<li>The lesser mealworm are mostly <strong>found in poultry rearing houses<\/strong> which are warm and can offer a constant food supply \u2014 ideal conditions for them to grow and reproduce.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution:<\/strong> These are <strong>thought to have originated in Africa,<\/strong> they can be found in many countries around the world.<\/li>\n<li>Mealworm larvae are <strong>capable of consuming polystyrene<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The bacteria living in the mealworms&#8217; gut help them break down the complex polymers in plastic.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>These bacteria produce enzymes capable of digesting the plastic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is polystyrene?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is known as <strong>Styrofoam.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Applications:<\/strong> It is a plastic material that\u2019s widely used in food, electronic and industrial packaging.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s difficult to break down and therefore durable.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is larva?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a stage in the development of many animals, occurring after birth or hatching and before the adult form is reached.
