{"id":28216,"date":"2024-11-24T12:53:49","date_gmt":"2024-11-24T07:23:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28216"},"modified":"2025-04-08T17:37:23","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T12:07:23","slug":"compressed-biogas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/compressed-biogas\/","title":{"rendered":"Compressed Biogas"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Compressed Biogas<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the mixture of <strong>hydrocarbon gases and vapours<\/strong> consisting <strong>mainly of Methane<\/strong> in gaseous form.<\/li>\n<li>It has been produced by the <strong>decomposition of animal and plant waste,<\/strong> purified and compressed for use as an automotive fuel and industrial application;<\/li>\n<li>CBG has <strong>calorific value and other properties similar to CNG<\/strong> and hence can be utilized as green renewable automotive fuel.<\/li>\n<li>Thus it can replace CNG in automotive, industrial and commercial areas, given the abundance of biomass availability within the country.<\/li>\n<li>Conversion of agricultural residue, cattle dung and municipal solid waste (MSW) into CBG in a commercial scale is expected to have the following benefits\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Import reduction of natural gas<\/strong> and crude.<\/li>\n<li>Utilization of agricultural residue, cattle dung and MSW for the production of CBG and thus to achieve <strong>reduction in emissions and pollution.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A boost towards fulfillment of National commitments in achieving climate change goals.<\/li>\n<li>Providing a buffer against energy security concerns and crude\/gas price fluctuations.<\/li>\n<li>Contribution towards Swachh Bharat Mission through responsible waste<\/li>\n<li>management<\/li>\n<li>Lowering pollution and carbon emission.<\/li>\n<li>Providing additional <strong>source of revenue to the farmers<\/strong>, rural employment and amelioration of the rural economy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1:What is Natural Gas?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a mixture of gases which are rich in hydrocarbons. It is a colorless and odorless gas composed of 70-90% methane (CH4).
