that the Ministry of Culture is executing the Museum Grant Scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Museum Grant Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>Central Sector Scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <\/span><b>Ministry of Culture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Government of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was launched in <\/span><b>2013<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides <\/span><b>financial assistance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><b>setting up new museums<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and strengthening and <\/span><b>modernizing existing ones<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at <\/span><b>regional, state, and district levels.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme also promotes <\/span><b>digitization of museum collections<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to make images and catalogues accessible online and focuses on <\/span><b>capacity building of museum professionals.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>supports institutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as <\/span><b>Central and State Governments, Public Sector Undertakings, Societies, Autonomous Bodies, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local Bodies, Academic Institutions, and <\/span><b>Trusts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">registered under the Societies Act.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme also <\/span><b>aims to develop at least 1 Central\/State Government Museum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in the<\/span><b> State Capital each year.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Museums <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are categorised into <\/span><b>three groups<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the scheme, with distinct funding norms according to ownership and status.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Category I:<\/b> <b>Existing renowned museums of the Central or State Governments <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">located in the <\/span><b>state capitals.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Category II:<\/b> <b>Central or State Govt. owned museums, including museums of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Category III: Projects of Societies, Autonomous bodies, local bodies,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Public Sector Undertaking, A<\/span><b>cademic Institutions and Trusts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">registered as a society under the Indian Societies Act of 1860 (XXI) or a similar legislation of the state governments, or as a Public Trust under any law.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Funding Pattern:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme allocates<\/span><b> up to Rs 15 crore for Category I museums,<\/b> <b>up to Rs 10 crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><b>establishing new Category II museums<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>up to Rs 8 crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the <\/span><b>development of existing Category II<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> museums.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>For Category III<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> museums, funding of <\/span><b>up to Rs 5 crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is available to <\/span><b>set up new museums<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>up to Rs 4 crore for improvement of existing ones.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dedicated <\/span><b>financial assistance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is available <\/span><b>for digitisation of museum collections <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>for training museum professionals.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Category I <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">museums can receive <\/span><b>up to Rs 50 lakh,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while <\/span><b>Category II <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">museums are eligible for assistance <\/span><b>up to Rs 25 lakh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">
