


{"id":28320,"date":"2024-11-29T08:09:55","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T02:39:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28320"},"modified":"2025-04-08T18:24:31","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T12:54:31","slug":"rengma-naga-tribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/rengma-naga-tribe\/","title":{"rendered":"Rengma Naga Tribe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Rengma Naga Tribe:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Rengma Naga are a <strong>Tibeto-Burman ethnic group<\/strong> inhabiting the Northeast Indian states of <strong>Nagaland and Assam.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>According to the 2011 Census of India, the population of Rengmas in Nagaland stands at 62,951 and the population of Rengmas in Assam is around 22,000.<\/li>\n<li>They <strong>call themselve<\/strong>s by the names of &#8220;<strong>Njong&#8221; or &#8220;Injang&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They belong to the <strong>Mongoloid racial stock.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>believed that Rengmas,<\/strong> along with other Naga tribes, <strong>migrated from Southeast Asia<\/strong> across the Yunnan Mountain ranges and settled down on the upper Burma region.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slavery used to be practised<\/strong> among the Rengmas, and the slaves were most commonly known by the names menugetenyu and it sakesa.\n<ul>\n<li>By the time the Britishers\/ British arrived in the Naga region, slavery was a declining practice, and no Rengma appears to have been a slave during that time.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Economy<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The Rengma tribes are <strong>agriculturalists<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They <strong>grow paddy through Jhum cultivation<\/strong> and <strong>wet cultivation<\/strong>. Besides paddy staple crops, seasonal crops and fruits are also grown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Religion<\/strong>: <strong>Traditionally<\/strong>, Rengma tribes are <strong>worshippers of supernatural beings<\/strong>. <strong>Nowmost<\/strong> of the Rengma tribes <strong>are Christians.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Festivals<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Rengma Tribes celebrate a lot of seasonal festivals that are related to their agriculture.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<strong>Ngada<\/strong>&#8221; is the most important festival of Rengma tribes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Jhum cultivation?<\/h3>\n<p>Jhum cultivation is a traditional agricultural practice primarily found in the northeastern states of India and other parts of Southeast Asia. It is also known as shifting cultivation or slash-and-burn agriculture.
