It features all the Gothic styles, from early to rayonnant.<\/li>\n<li>The cathedral was <strong>initiated by Maurice de Sully, bishop of Paris<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>foundation stone <\/strong>was laid by <strong>Pope Alexander III in 1163,<\/strong> and the high altar was consecrated in 1189.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>choir<\/strong>, the western facade, and the nave were <strong>completed by 1250<\/strong>, and porches, chapels, and <strong>other embellishments<\/strong> were <strong>added over the next 100 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It has been the setting for many historical events.
