{"id":28466,"date":"2025-10-06T09:08:42","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T03:38:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28466"},"modified":"2025-10-06T15:29:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T09:59:12","slug":"tikhir-tribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tikhir-tribe\/","title":{"rendered":"Tikhir Tribe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Tikhir Tribe Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) recently submitted a representation to the Nagaland Director General of Police, urging the inclusion of aspirants from Tikhir tribe residing in Noklak district in the now-declared Nagaland Police constable recruitment.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Tikhir Tribe<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tikhir tribe is <\/span><b>one of the indigenous Naga tribes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found in the northeastern Indian state of <\/span><b>Nagaland.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the 2011 census, the population of the Tikhir people in Nagaland was 7,537.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Some live across the border in Myanmar.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are listed as a <\/span><b>Scheduled Tribe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in the official <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/census-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">Census of India<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They speak a <\/span><b>language <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">called <\/span><b>Naga Yimchungru<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is <\/span><b>part of the Tibeto-Burman language family, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">like most Naga languages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>At one time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Tikhir <\/span><b>were headhunters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a man\u2019s prestige depended upon the number of enemies he had killed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tikhirs are an <\/span><b>agricultural community<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> whose livelihood depends on agricultural cultivation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the Tikhir are a small tribe in Nagaland, some of the larger tribes harass them.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Beliefs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the coming of the Christian missionaries to Nagaland, most Tikhirs converted to <\/span><b>Christianity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the Tikhir <\/span><b>practice elements of folk religion with their Christianity.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>Tsonglaknyi\u201d , the main Tikhir Festival<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is observed from 9th to 12th Oct. every year.
