{"id":28489,"date":"2024-12-06T04:28:48","date_gmt":"2024-12-05T22:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28489"},"modified":"2025-04-08T19:42:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T14:12:29","slug":"global-strategy-for-resilient-drylands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-strategy-for-resilient-drylands\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Strategy for Resilient Drylands"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Global Strategy for Resilient Drylands:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>This initiative is spearheaded by <strong>CGIAR centres International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas<\/strong> (ICARDA) <strong>and International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics<\/strong> (ICRISAT).<\/li>\n<li>It provides a roadmap to enhance <strong>food security, conserve biodiversity and build resilient livelihoods<\/strong> for the 2.7 billion people inhabiting drylands, particularly <strong>in Asia and Africa.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was launched at the <strong>16th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification<\/strong> (COP16) in Riyadh.<\/li>\n<li>It was developed through extensive consultations with national research organizations, governments, private sector partners, and civil society, ensuring its alignment with the specific needs of different dryland regions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is CGIAR?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It was established in 1971, is a strategic partnership of diverse donors that support 15 international Centers, working in collaboration with many hundreds of government and civil society organizations as well as private businesses around the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vision:<\/strong> To <strong>reduce poverty and hunger<\/strong>, improve human health and nutrition, and enhance ecosystem resilience through high-quality international agricultural research, partnership and leadership.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Food for People:<\/strong> Create and accelerate sustainable increases in the productivity and production of healthy food by and for the poor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Environment for People:<\/strong> Conserve, enhance and sustainably use natural resources and biodiversity to improve the livelihoods of the poor in response to climate change and other factors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Policies for People:<\/strong> Promote policy and institutional change that will stimulate agricultural growth and equity to benefit the poor, especially rural women and other disadvantaged groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a non-profit, non-political public international research organisation that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia &amp; sub-Saharan Africa.
