{"id":28497,"date":"2024-12-06T06:51:47","date_gmt":"2024-12-06T01:21:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28497"},"modified":"2025-04-08T19:46:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T14:16:21","slug":"lake-effect-snow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/lake-effect-snow\/","title":{"rendered":"Lake-Effect Snow"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Lake-Effect Snow:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>localized weather phenomenon<\/strong> which results from the <strong>interaction between cold air<\/strong> passing <strong>over warmer lake<\/strong> water generating snow that is deposited in localized regions downwind from the lake.<\/li>\n<li>It is common across the <strong>Great Lakes region<\/strong> during the late fall and winter.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Formation<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Lake Effect snow occurs <strong>when cold air<\/strong>, often originating from Canada, moves across the <strong>open waters of the Great Lakes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>As the cold air passes over the <strong>unfrozen and relatively warm waters<\/strong> of the Great Lakes, warmth and moisture are transferred into the lowest portion of the atmosphere.<\/li>\n<li>The air rises, clouds form and grow into narrow band that produces 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour or more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Lake effect snow occurrence and location is mainly <strong>dependent on wind<\/strong> (speed and direction) and <strong>topography.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>For instance, wind direction and speed can affect how narrow or wide a snow band is, as well as its length; whereas topography can influence snowfall rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the weather?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a state of the atmosphere at a particular place during a short period of time.
