


{"id":28501,"date":"2024-12-06T10:34:37","date_gmt":"2024-12-06T05:04:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28501"},"modified":"2025-04-08T19:48:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T14:18:10","slug":"cape-buffalo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cape-buffalo\/","title":{"rendered":"Cape buffalo"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Cape buffalo:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The African or Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a formidable and aggressive species.<\/li>\n<li>It is one of the four subspecies of African Buffalo found south of the Sahara, the others being the forest buffalo, the West African Savanna Buffalo and the Central African Savanna Buffalo.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Appearance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Compared with other large bovids, African buffalo have <strong>long but stocky bodies<\/strong> and short but thickset legs, resulting in a relatively short standing height.<\/li>\n<li>The adult buffalo&#8217;s <strong>horns are its characteristic feature<\/strong>: they have fused bases, forming a continuous bone shield across the top of the head referred to as a &#8220;boss&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Habitat:<\/strong> They live in <strong>swamps and floodplains<\/strong>, as well as mopane grasslands, and the forests of the major mountains of Africa.<\/li>\n<li>They prefer a habitat with dense cover, such as reeds and thickets, but can also be found in open woodland, montane grasslands, and forest, savannas, and moist lowland rainforests.<\/li>\n<li>African buffalo may be <strong>active throughout the day and night<\/strong>. They are social and live in herds that consist of related females, and their offspring, in an almost linear dominance hierarchy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution:<\/strong> The Cape Buffalo is found across the <strong>savannas of east and southern Africa.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Diet:<\/strong> African buffalo have a strictly herbivorous (graminivorous, folivorous) diet.
