{"id":28569,"date":"2024-12-09T08:04:47","date_gmt":"2024-12-09T02:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28569"},"modified":"2025-10-10T13:25:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T07:55:11","slug":"un-commission-on-narcotic-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/un-commission-on-narcotic-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It isthe principal policy-making body of the <strong>United Nations on drug-related matters<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mandate:<\/strong> It is mandated to <strong>monitor global drug trends<\/strong>, support Member States in formulating balanced policies, and oversee the implementation of the major international drug conventions.<\/li>\n<li>It is mandated to decide on the scope of control of substances under the three international drug control conventions (1961, 1971 and 1988 Conventions).<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>established by the resolution of the United Nations Economic and Social Council<\/strong> (ECOSOC) IN 1946.<\/li>\n<li>It is one of the functional commissions of the ECOSOC and a Governing Body of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/united-nations-office-on-drugs-and-crime-unodc\/\" target=\"_blank\">United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Members:<\/strong> The CND has <strong>53 member states<\/strong> that are <strong>elected by ECOSOC<\/strong>. It is <strong>chaired b<\/strong>y <strong>a Bureau<\/strong> including one member per Regional Group.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It has five subsidiary bodies:<\/strong> the Heads of National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, <strong>Asia and the Pacific and Africa<\/strong>, and the Subcommission in the Near and Middle East.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>meets annually<\/strong> and adopts a range of decisions and resolutions.
