{"id":28652,"date":"2024-12-12T06:48:18","date_gmt":"2024-12-12T01:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28652"},"modified":"2025-04-08T21:03:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T15:33:05","slug":"railways-amendment-bill-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/railways-amendment-bill-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>All the provisions<\/strong>\u00a0in the erstwhile colonial-era\u00a0<strong>Indian Railway Board Act, 1905<\/strong>, are proposed\u00a0<strong>to be incorporated in the Railways Act, 1989,<\/strong>\u00a0through this Bill.\n<ul>\n<li>It is intended to simplify the legal framework and\u00a0<strong>reduce the need to refer to two laws<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Bill also proposes to\u00a0<strong>amend the Railways Act, 1989<\/strong>, to\u00a0<strong>provide statutory backing to<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Railway Board<\/strong>, which has functioned without such a sanction since it began functioning.\n<ul>\n<li>The statutory powers seek to\u00a0<strong>enhance the functioning and independence<\/strong>\u00a0of the Railway Board.<\/li>\n<li>It also\u00a0<strong>authorises the Union government to decide the composition<\/strong>\u00a0of the Railway Board.<\/li>\n<li>This\u00a0<strong>includes the number of members,<\/strong>\u00a0their\u00a0<strong>terms of service,<\/strong>\u00a0and their\u00a0<strong>qualifications and experience<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Independent regulator<\/strong>: The bill proposes to\u00a0<strong>establish an independent regulator to oversee tariffs, safety, and\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0<strong>participation of the private sector<\/strong>\u00a0in the Railways.<\/li>\n<li>The bill\u00a0<strong>also proposes<\/strong>\u00a0to improve operational efficiencies and\u00a0<strong>decentralize powers, granting greater autonomy to railway zones.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The amendment is\u00a0<strong>expected to speed up the approval process for train services<\/strong>\u00a0that will help meet pending demands from various regions.<\/li>\n<li>The bill will\u00a0<strong>allow the government to fast-track infrastructure and superfast train operations.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: How many Railway Zones are there in India?<\/h3>\n<p>There are 19 zones ((including Metro Railway, Kolkata) on the Indian Railways and 70 divisions in the Indian Railway system.
