


{"id":28868,"date":"2024-12-20T10:00:58","date_gmt":"2024-12-20T04:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28868"},"modified":"2025-04-08T22:44:31","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T17:14:31","slug":"dark-comet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/dark-comet\/","title":{"rendered":"Dark Comet"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Dark Comet:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>They are <strong>celestial bodies<\/strong> which lack the glowing tails and resemble asteroids.<\/li>\n<li>The first indication of <strong>dark comets came in 2016<\/strong>, when asteroid 2003 RM exhibited unusual orbital deviations.<\/li>\n<li>Since then, astronomers have confirmed the existence of dark comets, with a new study published which revealed 14 such objects.\n<ul>\n<li>These comets fall into two main categories: <strong>\u201couter dark comets,\u201d<\/strong> which have eccentric orbits and are larger, and <strong>\u201cinner dark comets,\u201d<\/strong> which are smaller and closer to the Sun, with nearly circular orbits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Dark comets are often <strong>small, just a few metres<\/strong> to a few hundred metres wide.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>They have less surface area for material to escape and form into the beautiful tails we see on typical comets.<\/li>\n<li>They often <strong>spin quite rapidly<\/strong> and disperse escaping gas and dust in all directions, making them less visible.<\/li>\n<li>They follow <strong>elongated, elliptical paths<\/strong> that bring them close to the Sun before sweeping back out to the farthest reaches of the Solar System.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What are Asteroids?<\/h3>\n<p>Asteroids, sometimes called minor planets, are rocky remnants left over from the earlyformation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago.<\/p>\n<p><strong>News: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/science\/what-is-a-dark-comet-a-quick-guide-to-the-new-kids-in-the-solar-system\/article68999558.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">What is a dark comet?
