{"id":28896,"date":"2024-12-21T12:11:19","date_gmt":"2024-12-21T06:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=28896"},"modified":"2025-04-08T22:56:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T17:26:56","slug":"iris%c2%b2-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/iris%c2%b2-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"What is IRIS\u00b2 Programme?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About IRIS\u00b2 Programme:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the <strong>European Union\u2019s third flagship programme<\/strong>, designed to offer connectivity services to governmental users as well as private companies and individuals.<\/li>\n<li>According to the European Space Agency (ESA), IRIS\u00b2 will use both <strong>Medium Earth Orbit and Low Earth Orbit satellites.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It will provide <strong>secure connectivity and high-speed broadband<\/strong> in zones where network connectivity is low or unavailable.<\/li>\n<li>Its interlinked satellites which comprise of <strong>264 and 18 satellites in low and medium Earth orbits<\/strong> respectively will enable it to offer secure high-speed internet connectivity without needing thousands of satellites.<\/li>\n<li>It is developed in <strong>partnership with SpaceRISE,<\/strong> an alliance of leading European satellite operators and space companies<\/li>\n<li><strong>Applications:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It will \u201c<strong>support a large variety of governmental applications\u201d,<\/strong> with a focus on border and maritime surveillance, crisis management, connection and security of key infrastructure and security and defence of important.<\/li>\n<li>The system can also be used for <strong>maritime, railway, aviation, automotive<\/strong>, smart energy grid management, banking, overseas industrial activities, remote healthcare and enhancing rural connectivity.<\/li>\n<li>It will also offer <strong>mobile and fixed broadband satellite access,<\/strong> cloud-based services and can also be used in the transportation sector to navigate areas with no or low connectivity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1:Low Earth Orbit (LEO)?<\/h3>\n<p>LEO has an altitude between 160 km to 1000 km above the Earth\u2019s surface.
