{"id":29194,"date":"2025-01-05T06:56:02","date_gmt":"2025-01-05T01:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29194"},"modified":"2025-04-09T01:13:35","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T19:43:35","slug":"saint-narahari-tirtha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/saint-narahari-tirtha\/","title":{"rendered":"Saint Narahari Tirtha"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Saint Narahari Tirtha:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Narahari Tirtha (c. 13th century) was a prominent<strong> Dvaita Vedanta philosopher<\/strong>, scholar, and saint in the Madhva tradition.<\/li>\n<li>He was a <strong>disciple of Madhvacharya<\/strong>, the <strong>founder of Dvaita philosophy,<\/strong> and played a <strong>key role in spreading the doctrine in eastern India,<\/strong> particularly in the <strong>Kalinga region<\/strong> (modern Odisha and Andhra Pradesh).<\/li>\n<li>Believed to have hailed from Chikakolu town (present Srikakulam), Tirtha\u2019s<strong> ancestors were aristocrats in the Gajapati empire<\/strong> in what is now the Odisha state.<\/li>\n<li>Available epigraphical evidence suggests that <strong>kings of Eastern Ganga dynasty were assisted by the saint<\/strong> for three decades.\n<ul>\n<li>He <strong>ensured that the king followed Sanatana Dharma<\/strong> and took care of its adherents by <strong>formulating a proper executive system to oversee the temple administration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>His contributions on this front are well documented in<strong> inscriptions available<\/strong> in the <strong>Simhachalam and Srikurmam (Srikakulam) temples.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Some honorific prefixes being used along with the name of this saint are: \u2018Loka Suraks\u1e25a\u1e47a Ati Nipu\u1e47a\u1e25\u2019, \u2018Yo Avati Kalinga Bhu Sambhav\u0101n\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>As saint Ramanuja had introduced Vai\u1e63\u1e47avism in the region, it was <strong>Narahari T\u012brtha\u2019sprolonged presence<\/strong> that <strong>resulted in<\/strong> Acharya\u2019s <strong>Vai\u1e63h\u1e47avism getting a firm following<\/strong> in this region, but in a completely non-interfering and secular manner.<\/li>\n<li>Shri Narahari <strong>wrote fifteen books,<\/strong> but only two of his works,<strong>Gita Bhasya and Bhavaprakasika<\/strong> are existing today.<\/li>\n<li>He is the <strong>first one to have composed Devaranamas in Kannada.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He was <strong>instrumental in propagating two more art forms:Yak\u1e63agana Bayala\u1e6da<\/strong> which is a form of dance-drama famous in and around coastal Karnataka; and the <strong>classical dance<\/strong> form that evolved in Andhra Pradesh as the famous <strong>Kuchipudi<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The saint, upon his passing away, was consecrated near the rock adjacent to Chakratirtha at Hampi on the banks of river Tungabhadra.<\/li>\n<li>His <strong>contributions are linked to the temple traditions of Puri Jagannath,<\/strong> strengthening the Madhva influence in Odisha.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Indian Philosophy?<\/h3>\n<p>Indian Philosophy refers to several traditions of philosophical thought that originated in the Indian subcontinent, including Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain philosophy.
