{"id":29246,"date":"2025-01-07T09:11:53","date_gmt":"2025-01-07T03:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29246"},"modified":"2025-04-09T01:37:27","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T20:07:27","slug":"net-zero-banking-alliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/net-zero-banking-alliance\/","title":{"rendered":"Net-Zero Banking Alliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA):\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>bank-led and UN-convened<\/strong>, the Net Zero Banking Alliance is a group of leading global banks committed to aligning their lending, investment, and capital markets activities with net-zero <strong>greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the climate accelerator for <strong>UNEP Financial Initiative\u2019s<\/strong> Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Governance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is governed by a <strong>Steering Group and Chair<\/strong>. The Steering Group is selected by member banks, and represents a diversity of geographies and business models.<\/li>\n<li>It is supported and convened by the <strong>UNEP FI Secretariat,<\/strong> and the United Nations also holds a seat on the Steering Group.<\/li>\n<li>The Alliance operates in compliance with the NZBA governance <strong>document adopted in October 2021<\/strong> and updated in August 2023 and March 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>All banks that have signed the commitment will:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Transition<\/strong> the operational and attributable greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from their lending and investment portfolios to align with pathways to net-zero by 2050 or sooner.<\/li>\n<li>Within 18 months of joining, set targets for 2030 or sooner and a 2050 target, with intermediary targets to be set every 5 years from 2030 onwards.<\/li>\n<li>Banks\u2019 first 2030 targets will focus on priority sectors where the bank can have the most significant impact, ie. the most GHG-intensive sectors within their portfolios, with further sector targets to be set within 36 months.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annually publish absolute emissions<\/strong> and emissions intensity in line with best practice and within a year of setting targets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>No Indian Bank<\/strong> is a member of this alliance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system.
