{"id":29289,"date":"2025-01-08T01:26:34","date_gmt":"2025-01-07T19:56:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29289"},"modified":"2025-04-09T01:57:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T20:27:09","slug":"sri-ranganathaswamy-temple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sri-ranganathaswamy-temple\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a prominent <strong>Hindu temple<\/strong> situated <strong>at Srirangam<\/strong> near Trichy in <strong>Tamil Nadu.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This temple is the <strong>biggest functioning Hindu temple in India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Built across an area of 156 acres, this temple is dedicated to Ranganatha, a reclining form of Hindu deity, Lord Vishnu.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>foremost of the eight self-manifested shrines of Lord Vishnu<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This temple <strong>lies on an islet formed<\/strong> by the twin <strong>rivers Cauvery and Coleroon.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Though the temple existing since the 2nd century BC, the archaeological inscriptions are available only from the 10th century CE.<\/li>\n<li>This temple underwent <strong>many changes during<\/strong> the rule of <strong>Cholas, Cheras, Pandiyas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagar kings and Nayak of Madurai.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Architecture<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The entire temple complex is a perfect example of <strong>Dravidian architecture.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Apart from the <strong>7 enclosures with massive walls,<\/strong> the temple complex has <strong>21 very colorful sculpted gopuras,<\/strong> 50 sub-shrines, 9 sacred pools, and a <strong>golden Vimana (dome)<\/strong> over the sanctum sanctorum of the presiding deity.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>vimana over the sanctum<\/strong> of the temple is <strong>made up of gold.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>236-feet Rajagopura (tower)<\/strong> is the <strong>tallest temple tower in India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There is also a royal temple tower, which covers a base area of 32,500 sq. ft. and has a height of 196 ft.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It also <strong>comprises a hall containing 1000 pillars<\/strong>. Intricate sculptures are the most attractive part of the hall.
